NRI questions
Read our guide to residential status if you are not sure how you are classified.
Who counts as an NRI for tax purposes?
It depends mainly on the number of days you spend in India, not on citizenship alone. Most people who stay in India for fewer than 182 days in a year are non-resident, with extra tests for some Indian citizens and persons of Indian origin who visit often and have higher Indian income. See our guide for the details.
Do I have to file an Indian return as an NRI?
It depends on your Indian income and the tax already deducted. Many NRIs file to claim refunds or report capital gains. We review your position and tell you plainly.
Can you work with me from another time zone?
Yes. Meetings are by video call, arranged at times that suit your time zone.
Do I need to visit India?
Most tax work can be done remotely. Some steps, such as property registration, involve lawyers and may need your presence or a power of attorney.
Do you issue Form 15CB?
Form 15CB must be issued by a practising Chartered Accountant. We prepare the tax workings and coordinate with one when it is required.
Do you guarantee tax savings or refunds?
No. We do not guarantee outcomes. We aim to get your tax position right, claim what you are entitled to and keep your records in order.
