Income tax and salary calculator

Compare the new and old tax regimes for an individual. Change the numbers and the estimate updates.

Your estimate

Estimates only, based on the rules shown here as of 28 September 2026 for tax year 2026-27 (assessment year 2027-28). Rules change, so please verify current requirements or ask a professional before acting.

How this works

The calculator applies the slab rates, standard deduction, rebate and 4% cess for the tax year shown. It works out tax under both regimes so you can compare. It does not include surcharge, so it is not shown for income above ₹50 lakh.

Regime choice

The new regime has lower rates and fewer deductions. The old regime allows deductions such as 80C and HRA. Which is better depends on how much you can actually claim. Capital gains and some other income are taxed at special rates and are not covered here. Try our capital gains calculator for those.

Questions

Is the result my final tax?

No. It is an estimate based on the inputs you enter and the rules shown on this page. Your actual tax depends on your full income, deductions and facts.

Why is there no surcharge?

Surcharge applies at higher incomes and involves marginal relief. For income above ₹50 lakh, ask us for a proper computation.

Want this checked properly?

A calculator gives an estimate. We can review your actual documents and give you a computation you can rely on.
